LOOK FOR DR. SONDRUP'S NEW BOOK. SOON TO BE RELEASE LATE 2007, EARLY 2008.
BELOW IS A SAMPLING CHAPTER OF DR. SONDRUP'S NEW BOOK.

Introduction

Over the last twenty years, I have read literally hundreds of books on inspiration, self help and health and wellness. Being in the healthcare field I believe the more knowledge and information I can acquire, the better I am able to help my patients achieve optimal health and wellness.

Call me cynical but, after reading about my three hundredth book my usual response was “Oh great!” Just what the world needs another self-help - how to get well - be well - stay well - new age bubble gum - pseudo science - cliché inspirational - self discovery - heard it all before motivational - telling me how and why I am so screwed up - miraculous transformational - self healing - with no instructions on how to heal myself - and lets not forget the incense, peppermints, potions, lotions, and chants - wonder book! Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of incredible, life altering books out there. I could read books written by Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Carolyn Myss, and Debbie Ford all day long.
I realized that after being in practice for eleven years as a chiropractor, nutritionist, and energy healer. As well as reading hundreds of books, attending, learning, developing, and teaching numerous seminars, symposiums and workshops on cutting edge holistic healing techniques and modalities; not to mention the constructive poking and prodding from patients, family, friends, and colleges, it was time for me to finally write my book that has been lingering in my head for the last five years. My book was not going to be another “wonder book.” It had to be thought provoking, easy to understand and life altering, combining the science, art and philosophy of eastern, western, ancient and modern methods of healing. My main purpose in writing this book is to entertain, educate, and enlighten the reader about the infinite, wondrous possibilities that exist within themselves. Once the reader has enough information and insight hopefully they will have enough courage to make the choice to reclaim their power. When we shift our perceptions (beliefs) into more harmonious directions of unconditional love, forgiveness, healthy boundaries, trust and re-establish our connection to the divine, we then move into a more advanced stage of spiritual growth. We become empowered. To reclaim our power is to realize we are eternally, infinitely and divinely connected to God and all of creation. When we allow the power of God to follow and work through us we become the creators and masters of our little corner of the universe. We soon realize that we are totally and completely responsible for everything that we are experiencing in our lives. When we reclaim our power we no longer choose to be a slave or victim to genes, germs or upbringing. We have the ultimate choice we can choose to have optimal health and wellness or we can choose to remain a slave and a victim to our surroundings.

Reclaiming your power is essentially three books in one. It is a story book providing the reader with thought provoking quotes and poems and true stories of hope and inspiration. It is a handbook providing the reader with an incredible amount of information, instruction and reference material. And finally reclaiming your power is a workbook, providing the reader with exercises and meditations to literally transform their lives for the better providing the reader with tools for mastering optimal health and wellness. Reclaiming your power is divided into nine sections for your convenience.

·        Section one goes into detail about how our beliefs determine our place in life and the impact of our conscious and subconscious minds have in creating our reality.

·        Section two details the pioneers behind body-mind-spirit healing; the concepts, applications, and mechanisms of the placebo, healing, and miracles.

·        Section three taps into our spiritual side and our relationship with our Creator. Simplifying the issues; of spirituality, religion, healing, hell and punishment.

·        Section four and five provide the reader with exercises, visualizations, meditations and focused prayers for reclaiming our power and creating our reality in a positive, healthy, growth mode.

·        Section six educates the reader on how to master the basics of optimal health and wellness; water, food, rest, exercise, breathing, fresh air and sunlight.

·        Section seven is a compilation of true stories of hope, inspiration and empowerment.

·        Section eight summarizes the principles of reclaiming your power and where to go from here on your journey.

·        Section nine is an appendix filled with useful information and statistics for your reference.

My advice is to read the book slowly from cover to cover. If you are tired or distracted, put the book down and resume reading it at a later time. Once you are finished reading, go back and re-read the sections or chapters that you felt a connection with. Highlight the book as you see fit. Remember, this is your story-hand-workbook. Use what works for you and release what doesn’t work. Remember, reclaiming your power is a life long journey of unconditional love and forgiveness.
Optimal health and wellness is not a static state and neither is illness and disease there is no quick fix and there is no magic bullet. So, enjoy the journey, with abundant love and blessings.

Laughter the Forgotten Medicine

Laughter is the shortest distance between two people. – Victor Borge

A keen sense of humor helps us to overcome the unbecoming, understand the unconventional, tolerate the unpleasant, overcome the unexpected and outlast the unbearable. – Billy Graham

The best of healers is a good cheer. – Pindar

Over the last ten years practicing as a holistic physician, I have always strived to educate my patients on the basic essentials of optimal health & wellness; water, food, exercise, rest, sunlight and breathing. However, I overlooked an important basic essential to optimal health, laughter. We live in a fast paced world burning the candle at both ends nine way of Sunday. Between work, school, home, driving time, kids activities, church, organizations, bills, taxes, deadlines, and commitments; we leave little time for laughter to remind ourselves not to take life so seriously. We are all guilty of it from time to time. We have become so entrenched in our day to day activities that we are either to afraid or unable to remember how to seek the humor in all facets of life.

Incorporating everyday humor and laughter is essential for optimal health and wellness. The physical act of laughter as well as the physiology behind laughter has many health benefits. Japanese researchers demonstrated that patients with type2 diabetes had decreased blood sugar levels after eating when they watched a comedy compared to listening to a lecture. UCLA’s, Johnsson Cancer Centre began a five year study in 2000 to see if laughter improved pain and immune function with children suffering from cancer and other types of chronic diseases. The study showed that children had decreased levels of pain when they watched funny videos. Many other studies demonstrated that laughter had many other positive results including:

  1. Decreased blood pressure
  2. Increased oxygen utilization
  3. Increased endorphin levels resulting in a greater sense of well being.
  4. Decreased cortisol levels resulting in decreased levels of stress.
  5. Promotes relaxation
  6. Decreased depression
  7. Improved immune function
  8. Improved lung function

Laughter allows us to fully express our emotions and feelings in a positive, harmonious way. By acknowledging and accepting humor within our own insecurities, imperfections, and idiocities and being able to laugh at them, enables us to transcend to a higher level of spiritual development. The roll of comedians over the last 50 to 60 years has helped humanity to take an honest look at ourselves not only as an entire civilization but, as an individual and allow us to laugh at ourselves. To poke fun at reality; if we can’t go through life without laughing at our own insecurities, imperfections and idiocities then there is no point in living at all.
I have always had a great sense of humor I can laugh at the most mundane things till tears start running down my face. The late comedian Sam Kineson had a knack for somehow always finding the humor with any topic or situation. To many, Kineson came across as loud, blasphemous and offensive. However, his ability to find the humor in any situation is truly a gift of healing. Finding humor in all areas of life and expressing it through laughter is our own built in pressure release valve. Opening up the valve with laughter allows us to free up any repressed or suppressed emotion or feelings we as humans are carrying. As I have said throughout this book; loss of health is the direct result of our inability to freely express our emotions and feelings in a safe, productive, harmonious way.
As we travel through life we will always be confronted with uncomfortable and unpopular topics such as war, death, politics, religion, sex, God, and love. Laughter is just another way of moving past our attachments to these topics.
What happens to us when we get together with friends or family? Usually, everyone takes turns recalling a humorous incident that they shared with in the past. Before the end of a night everyone is laughing and smiling and sharing in good cheer. If you’re ever around a group of close friends, especially men, they take turns quoting their favorite line from a funny movie. No matter how many times my friends and I have heard an impersonation of Bill Murray in Caddy Shack we always end up rolling on the ground, laughing with tears in our eyes. Can you imagine how healthy we would be if we laughed like that everyday? This inspired me to list my top 101 funniest movies. I do not believe one can have too much laughter. If you happen to be suffering from cancer or some other debilitating chronic disease then I suggest seeking any way to make you laugh as much as possible. Please read my disclaimer before watching any of the movies, enjoy.
